WELCOME TO CECIL’S CROWSNEST. WE ARE HAPPY TO HAVE YOU HERE!
You may be wondering about the name chosen for our vacation rental. There is a story and here is goes…
On a brisk spring morning, our two Lhasa apso dogs were frolicking through the woods at our cabin lake home. If you have dogs, you know the difference of the meaning to each bark, so when I heard frantic barking, I ran to where they were as quickly as my feet could carry me in the thick woods. Lying in the leaves, at the bottom of an oak tree was a baby crow, helpless and scared. The parents were circling in the sky, crying out for their baby, but the fledgling was too young to fly and too big to be picked up by the parents. I gently carried the baby crow back to our cabin and so began our journey with “Cecil “our foster bird. We fed and sheltered him for the next eight weeks, marveling at how quickly he grew and the delight he brought to our family. I researched the American Crow and discovered that they are highly intelligent and can recognize different human faces. That summer was magical, Cecil was a part of everyday, he road on our shoulders, ate from our fingers, played with anything you gave him. The afternoon he flew for the first time was as exciting as watching a human child take their first steps. We knew the time was coming to an end, we knew Cecil would eventually leave us to be with other crows. Whatever circumstances brought us together, enriched our lives for the ten weeks we knew “Cecil”. Since his departure, the sight of a crow, and there are many, brings a smile and a sigh to our hearts, we will be forever grateful to have made his acquaintance. There are photos of Cecil in the rental. Enjoy your stay!
